Amazing experience
We stayed at Guest House Shigi for two nights but it wasn't nearly long enough! Our host Asai was incredibly helpful, even going so far as to drive us to Magome to begin our hike, saving us a lot of time on the buses. The 110 year old house itself is stunning. I spent a lot of time looking out the engawa doors at the garden, so peaceful. My only suggestions are to add some soap to the toilet basin as well (there was soap in the main bathroom next door so it wasn't a problem), and to perhaps type up a booklet on how to operate the AC and shower dehumidifier. Thank you so much!

A Hidden Gem
I booked this stay last minute since it was close to a hike I wanted to do. It’s almost been a couple weeks, and Guesthouse SHIGI still stands out as one of my favorite places I’ve stayed during my trip to Japan. The house itself is incredibly clean, and has a very unique atmosphere. I think you’ll be impressed and enchanted with it. Most of all, I’ll remember how kind and welcoming Atsushi was. He was great at making me feel welcome, showed me around the house, taught my some more about Japanese culture, and helped me get to my hike. I can’t recommend staying here enough. I’d give 6 stars if I could. Thanks again Atsushi!!
