if you're familiar with the super 8 chain you know what to expect: reasonable size rooms with all necessary equipment and fittings, functional and clean but without frills. no fancy lobby, but friendly staff. handy for the hubin nanlu bus station (one of at least three in xiamen), in a pleasant but not lively location. lan internet access in the room, and wi-fi in the lobby

Hotel location is good. There's a bank across the street, 2 bus stops nearby, and numerous restaurants, all of which can be seen along Hexiang West Road. Along Douzewei Road there are also fruit shops, mini grocery and restaurants. They have wifi in the common area which is very critical for travellers who are touring without the aid of agencies and are dependent on android phones. It would be better though if wifi is also available in the rooms, but if you have your own laptop, they have free LAN access inside the rooms. Tour service is available in the lobby, but we didn't pay much attention to it so we don't know the rates as we want to travel on our own. Cleaning service is done daily, so you'll have new sets of towels and linens everyday. Eventhough you hang your towels on the rack (to signify it's okay to re-use your towel to help them conserve water), they will change your towels anyway Only downside of the hotel is the lack of english speaking staff. We had a hard time checking in as we cannot understand the lady in charge during that shift, and we arrived around 2AM, and we are already tired. Good thing we have a translation app in our phone that we were able to use thanks to their wifi. The following days they already have an english speaking staff, although he is available for 1 shift only so we make sure he's on duty when we ask questions. Also, I think this is common in China, guests smoke in the corridor and the lobby. Make sure to ask for non smoking rooms if you're sensitive to smell or if you have asthma.
